Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) means AI systems that outperform humans across most important domains: science, engineering, strategy, persuasion, and automation. If such systems arrive, they would not just be “better tools.” They could become powerful actors in the world because they would plan, execute, and improve processes faster than people can respond.
The worry is not that ASI becomes “evil.” The worry is loss of control: a system can be extremely capable while pursuing goals that do not match human intent. History is full of examples where small goal errors produce big side effects. With a system that can outthink us, scale quickly, and operate through software, markets, and infrastructure, those side effects could be irreversible.
